Abstract
The article focuses on competencies-centered work in the practicum. The consideration of deficiencies in initial training hinders the possibility of assuming the practicum as a privileged environment for professional initiation and socialization. Professional competence is taken as that stage’s formative reference. Once professional competence and training based on competence have been conceptualized, there is a discussion of some of the implications such assumptions have in the design, development, negotiation and evaluation of the practicum.

Key words: Practicum, professional competence, competencies-based training, practicum’s negotiation, evaluation.
