Types of contributions

1. Refereed articles. Primary publications such as:

a) Reports of empirical research. Works which describe general or partial results of original research in some area of education, and which have not been previously published in Spanish or subjected to judgment in another publication. Such articles should preferably contain the following sections:

  • Abstract. In Spanish, about 150 words, placed after the title of the article. Must contain a brief description of the objectives, methodology and results of the article. Preferably should include an English translation of the summary (abstract).
  • Keywords (except for reviews). Minimum of three, maximum of five words. Should preferably adhere to the ERIC or UNESCO thesaurus.
  • Introduction. The presentation of the problem or object of study, and the objective of the investigation.
  • Method/Methodology. The description of the method used, or the methodology with which the research was carried out.
  • Results. The report of the results obtained in the investigation.
  • Discussion. The interpretation and argumentation of results.

b) Essays or reviews. Works of meta-analysis and critical evaluation of previous research or literature on any area or object of educational research. This type of work should preferably provide the current state of knowledge of that object or area of study, or should allow the identification of relations, contradictions or inconsistencies and propose solutions or avenues for further study. Does not require a chronological sequence, but rather, a relational one.

c) Theoretical articles. Works in which literature on educational research is analyzed, and which contribute to the advancement of theory in any area of the field. In this type of work, the author tracks the development of the theory so as to expand or refine theoretical constructs. Usually, in this kind of article the author presents a new theory, but can also analyze the consistencies and inconsistencies of existing theories. Does not require a chronological sequence, but rather, a relational one.

d) Case studies. Articles that describe the results of an investigation in which research has been done on a particular case. Preferably contain the same sections as empirical research reports.

2. Interviews. Presentation of the fundamental concepts held by some prominent academic in the field of educational research, in an interview. The interviews should include:

  • Abstract. In Spanish, about 150 words, placed after the title of the article. Must contain a brief description of the objectives, methodology and results of the article. Preferably should include an English translation of the summary (abstract).
  • Keywords (except for reviews). Minimum of three, maximum of five words, which should adhere to the terms accepted in the ERIC or UNESCO thesaurus.
  • A portrait of the interviewee (for interviews). Included at the beginning of the interview.
  • Questions and answers.

3. Conferences. Papers in which are addressed some area of educational research, and which are presented at a national or international event. There is no established structure for the body of the conference, although it is recommended that it contain an introduction, a body, and conclusions, as well as:

  • Abstract. In Spanish, about 150 words, placed after the title of the article. Must contain a brief description of the objectives, methodology and results of the article. Preferably should include an English translation of the summary (abstract).
  • Keywords (except for reviews). Minimum of three, maximum of five words, which should adhere to the terms accepted in the ERIC or UNESCO thesaurus.

4. Reviews or critiques. Analysis or critical reviews of published books that address education-related topics. Descriptions or summaries of books are not accepted. Reviews of current publications are preferred. The structure should include:

  • Title. The review must have an original title of its own, different from the title of the book being reviewed.
  • Information about the book. Name of the author or authors, title of the book, number of the edition, city where it was published, publisher and number of pages.

IMPORTANT: Unsupported articles of opinion or interpretation are not accepted, nor are stories or anecdotes.
